Umpire Services

Insurance appraisal is a binding alternative dispute resolution process. If your insurance policy has an appraisal provision, it will detail how this process unfolds. Normally, an appraiser for the insurance company and an appraiser for the policyholder are nominated. Then the two appraisers must select an Umpire. The Umpire involvement is triggered by a disagreement between the two appraisers who both decide the claim cannot be resolved without someone else getting involved. This “someone else” is the Umpire.

Umpires are:
– Competent in loss adjusting, estimate writing, and construction
– Responsible for determining the repair costs and ultimate value of the claim
– The appointed party who develops the consensus needed to settle the claim
– Ultimately the one to conclude the claim once engaged
